D.A.T Funk
This one is sorta synth pop. Sometimes danceable, always moody, some deep cuts from alternative night archives past and present. Growing up there were a few clubs nearby that had the big “Alternative” nights. More of a show guy than a club kid, I did find myself there a few nights and while the DJs would spin the predictable 90s alt classics, there were always a handful of deep cuts that were bigger than the scene, bigger than genre. Those tracks always stuck with me and I tried to recreate that feeling with this playlist. Spotify has something like 800 genres, and I feel like I sorta hit on all of the genres that bring “leather pants,” “Fiat” and “demitasse” to mind. Truth is there’s a conspicuous melancholy that tethers this playlist but also dare I say fun. Jumps across a number of decades and locales.
