Jelly Intifada

When I started this thing I didn’t realize the effort required to make one original playlist a day. About 10 days into it — and after consuming incredible playlists from friends and colleagues — I realized that SHARING playlists made by other other people — accomplishes the ultimate goal of bringing you thoroughly vetted, thoughtfully constructed playlists. So this will be the first of the Blumberg playlists — and let me tell you there are a lot of them, each one better than the last. From one half of the Blumberg Brothers, Jason:

“My methodology for these ones are basically all the same: me and Shawn text each other songs as we find them and then I add them to an exploratory playlist and then when it gets to like 400 songs I cull the best ones into a sort of champions league.”

And that’s what these are. They hit the mark like a perfect De Bruyne service, jumping between genres and eras with ease. Most of the tracks here are rare grooves, domestic and international, and very rarely contemporary and familiar, unless you’re a total loser like myself or the Blumberg Brothers and spend way too much time searching the internet for golden audio nuggets. You could find yourself bobbing to an old ska track followed by deep funk from the Philippines and then psyched out fuzz from Portugal. But it all makes sense somehow. Filled with tons of deep cuts, I’ve yet to stumble upon one of their mixes (I’ve listened to 6 so far) that doesn’t surprise me. I’ll be posting new ones weekly so stay tuned.
