Chale! Africa
Just a short playlist of recent discoveries from African artists new and old in styles both classic and contemporary. I’ve been on a long journey over decades to improve my knowledge of African music — an intimidatingly expansive and overwhelmingly rich landscape — to a point where I’m comfortable not bundling an entire continents’ artists into a single playlist. I’m getting close, but not quite there yet to feel confident I would be giving each country and genre its rightful due. For now, I hope you enjoy some of songs that have been regular playlist mainstays for a long time and certainly during the quarantine months where optimism has been seemingly difficult to find.
