I spent a ton of time putting together my favorite songs of 2018. Months later, after some distance from the trainwreck garbage fire that the year was, I’m realizing that musicians really are at the forefront of artistic rebellion. And while the Internet helped to further obscure fact from fiction and the Earth continues to die at an increasingly alarming rate, musicians are channeling that vitriol into their music. And while I listen to a lot of different genres, I’ve noticed that there seems to be a vibrant resurgence in a sound more at home in the late 1970s and early 1980s. So here is a primer of new-ish bands who have taken the reigns from legendary acts from 23 Skidoo to Zounds and all of the in between.
